Uses of Quicklime (Calcium Oxide) (CaO)

  • Production of Steel: Quicklime is used in the production of steel as a fluxing agent to remove impurities such as silica and phosphorus from the steel. The quicklime reacts with these impurities to form slag, which can be removed from the steel.
  • Water Treatment: Quicklime can be used to treat water, as it reacts with water to form calcium hydroxide, which can help remove impurities and improve water quality. Quicklime can also be used to disinfect water by killing harmful bacteria and viruses.
  • Soil Stabilization: Quicklime is used in soil stabilization to increase the pH of acidic soils, which improves the soil's properties and makes it more suitable for planting. It can also be used to stabilize soils that are susceptible to erosion.
  • Paper Industry: Quicklime is used in the paper industry as a causticizing agent to help remove lignin from wood pulp during the production of paper. This process improves the brightness and strength of the paper.
  • Chemical Industry: Quicklime is used in the chemical industry as a raw material to produce calcium-based chemicals such as calcium carbonate, calcium hydroxide, and calcium chloride. These chemicals have a wide range of applications, including in the production of cement, plastics, and fertilizers.
  • Sugar Industry: Quicklime is used in the sugar industry to purify sugar cane juice by neutralizing its acidity and removing impurities. The juice is heated with quicklime to form calcium oxide, which reacts with the impurities to form a solid waste product that can be removed.
  • Construction Industry: Quicklime is used in the construction industry as a binding agent in mortar and plaster, as it hardens when exposed to air. It can also be used as a stabilizer for soils and as a filler material in asphalt.
  • Leather Industry: Quicklime is used in the leather industry to remove hair and flesh from animal hides during the tanning process. The hides are soaked in a solution of quicklime and water to loosen the hair and flesh, which can then be scraped off.

Uses of Hydrated Lime (Calcium Hydroxide) (CaOH2)

  • Water Treatment: Hydrated lime is used in water treatment to remove impurities and improve water quality. It can also be used to disinfect water and control pH levels. The calcium hydroxide reacts with impurities in the water to form solids that can be removed.

  • Soil Stabilization: Hydrated lime is used in soil stabilization to improve the strength and stability of soil, particularly in road construction and building foundations. It can also be used to treat soils that are too acidic or too saline.

  • Construction Industry: Hydrated lime is used in the construction industry as a binding agent in mortar and plaster. It can also be used to improve the workability and setting time of concrete. In addition, it can be used as a filler material in asphalt and as a soil stabilizer.

  • Chemical Industry: Hydrated lime is used in the chemical industry as a raw material to produce calcium-based chemicals such as calcium carbonate, calcium hypochlorite, and calcium phosphate. These chemicals are used in a wide range of applications, including in the production of fertilizer, plastics, and pharmaceuticals.

  • Agriculture: Hydrated lime is used in agriculture to adjust soil pH levels and reduce soil acidity, which can improve crop yields. It can also be used as a soil disinfectant and to control certain pests.

  • Food Industry: Hydrated lime is used in the food industry as a food additive, particularly in the production of tortillas, where it helps to soften the corn kernels and make them easier to grind. It can also be used as a preservative and pH regulator in foods such as pickles, canned fruits, and vegetables.

  • Environmental Remediation: Hydrated lime is used in environmental remediation to neutralize acidic or hazardous waste materials. It can also be used to stabilize and solidify contaminated soil and waste materials, making them easier to handle and dispose of.

Uses of Limestone (Calcium Carbonate) (CaCO3)

  • Construction Industry: Limestone is used in the construction industry as a building material and as a component in cement, concrete, and asphalt. It is used to create structures such as buildings, bridges, and roads, and is prized for its durability and strength.

  • Agriculture: Limestone is used in agriculture to neutralize acidic soils and improve soil fertility. It can also be used as a calcium supplement for livestock and as a filler material in animal feed.

  • Steel Industry: Limestone is used in the steel industry as a fluxing agent to remove impurities from the steel. It reacts with the impurities to form slag, which can be removed from the steel.

  • Chemical Industry: Limestone is used in the chemical industry as a raw material to produce calcium-based chemicals such as calcium carbonate and calcium chloride. These chemicals have a wide range of applications, including in the production of plastics, pharmaceuticals, and fertilizers.

  • Glass Industry: Limestone is used in the glass industry to create soda-lime glass, which is the most common type of glass. It is also used to produce other types of glass, such as lead glass and borosilicate glass.

  • Environmental Remediation: Limestone can be used in environmental remediation to neutralize acidic waste materials and improve water quality. It can also be used to reduce the effects of acid rain on soil and vegetation.

  • Decorative Use: Limestone is prized for its natural beauty and is often used as a decorative material in buildings and landscaping. It is used for flooring, walls, countertops, and other decorative features.

Quicklime

Quicklime, sometimes referred to as burnt lime or calcium oxide (CaO), is a highly reactive and caustic substance utilised in a variety of processes, including water treatment, the production of chemicals, steel, soil stability, and more. Depending on your application needs, our quicklime is available in a variety of forms, including lump, pebble, or powder.

02.

Quicklime Powder

Quicklime powder is produced from finely grounded Quicklime, Produced by pulverizing Quicklime into a fine powder that is easier to handle mix, and transport. Commonly used in metallurgy, chemical manufacturing, flue gas desulfurization, agriculture, and construction.

Hydrated Lime

Also known as slaked lime or calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2), Hydrated Lime is a fine white powder obtained by adding water to Quicklime. It is widely used in applications such as water and waste water treatment, construction, pH adjustment, soil amendment, and more.

Limestone

Limestone is a sedimentary rock composed mostly of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and is the main source of calcium oxide, which is used to produce Quicklime and Hydrated Lime. Our Limestone products are carefully sourced from our quarries and processed to meet strict quality standards.
